A Lions Club Alliance Environmental Project
Mullingar Lions Club and its partner Lions Clubs (Edenderry, Maynooth/Kilcock and Navan Lions Clubs) have been granted permission by Eurolink to stage a Primary Schools sponsored walk on the M4 KINNEGAD-ENFIELD-KILCOCK Motorway on Wednesday 7th December 2005. The Motorway opens to the public on the 12th of December 2005.
As the Lions Clubs are very aware of the efforts and achievements of primary schools in the area of Environmental Awareness, we decided to create an opportunity for primary schools not only to take part in an event associated with the motorway but also to raise funds by way of a sponsored walk. All monies raised will assist in each school’s individual environmental projects. This is also a unique event for a number of pupils from each school to walk on the Motorway before it opens to traffic.
Examples of Primary Schools Environmental Awareness projects are:
(a)Tree sowing
(b)Wild Flower Gardens
(c)Bird Boxes
(d)Green Flag Initiatives
(e)Recycling
To date, over twenty schools are planning to take part in this event, which means that in excess of six hundred pupils will be taking part in the walk.
Each school will be presented with a Certificate acknowledging the part played in the opening of the motorway and its contribution towards environmental awareness.
Corporate Sponsorship has been kindly provided by a number of companies involved in the construction of the Motorway, including SIAC Construction, RPS Consulting Engineers, Roughan & O’Donovan Consulting Engineers, Musgraves and Super Value Mullingar (Buckley’s) and Eurolink.
